Welcome to our 2019 school year. Many of our staff have been back for a while but we all gathered last week on Thursday to launch our Positive Learning Framework and on Friday to work with our Digital Technology Team on levels of competencies and expectations in this very important new area of our mandated curriculum here in WA.
It was great to see the students return with such gusto on Monday! I think this says a lot about our orientation and enrolment processes here at SSP. Our middle and senior classes are full with some vacancies in our early years’ classes. Our Childcare service is oversubscribed which has led to us increasing our licence from 60 to 80 children in our OSHC service.
As you may already know we are a No Homework school, instead we have our Learning at Home policy in place and working extremely well since its introduction two years ago – times are changing!

Parents will get an opportunity to meet the staff at our Parent Information Nights scheduled for Weeks 2 and 3 (see the Term Calendar on the Schoolzine App or on our website) or when we gather at our first whole school Mass which will take place tomorrow, Thursday 7 February at 9.00am. Our first Assembly will be in Week 3 to announce our House Sports Captains.
It is really great to see parents arriving in plenty of time for children to be in the classroom and ready to learn (doors open at 8.30am), using our Kiss n Ride program beautifully and observing extreme caution around the car parks and roads leading to our school. Congratulations on such a great start to the year.

These meetings are designed to set up the year for you and your child and contain vital information for all parents. At least one representative from each family is expected to attend and sign the attendance register at these meetings.

Parking for all schools in this northern corridor is minimalist due to the costs of planning and providing land by the local government, plus the maintenance costs associated with car parks.
Parking at SSP include the following options:
- Junior Kiss n Ride (recommended to arrive no earlier than 2.50pm to avoid queuing/parking on Prendiville Avenue)
- Senior Kiss n Ride (recommended to arrive no earlier than 2.50pm to avoid queuing/parking on Prendiville Avenue)
- Church car park
- School car park
- Beaumaris Shops
- Santiago Parkway (street parking on the northern boundary of the school)
- Santiago Reserve (using stairs of the oval to access the school at the back of the ELC)
- Catching a bus and walking to school are further options for families with older students to consider.
We are engaged in on-going dialogue with the City of Joondalup which has been largely unhelpful. The City’s Rangers continue to monitor and book drivers at all schools in the region which we have recommended people to contest the case if they are queuing at pick up time. We remain proactive in our approach to parking with Prendiville College and have engaged our CEWA Resources Team Consultant to provide further assistance and other agencies on this matter.
In conclusion, what we will continue trying to do is to get the City of Joondalup, who planned for 3 schools to be located in close proximity to each other, to come to the table to provide a solution to our traffic and parking problems. At this point in time there is no interest in even meeting to look at this by Local or State Government representatives.
