- Parent TV - Social Anxiety - When Shyness Becomes A Problem
Sometimes incidents occur in the community that prompt many individuals to share their opinions. However, the person involved may not hear these thoughts, rendering them without impact. Social media has bridged this gap, facilitating the frequent trolling of individuals based on others' viewpoints. In a school environment, discussions about an incident often reach the individual involved or their family, usually without full context.
In the Gospel of John, 8:7, Jesus challenges those without sin to cast the first stone at an individual they were prepared to condemn. Nobody did, as they realized their imperfections when Jesus wrote them in the sand in front of them.
When we hear stories about others in our school community, it's crucial to empathise with their situation. Imagine how it would feel if others were discussing you without allowing you to explain. It's distressing for someone in our school community to be the subject of gossip. Therefore, it's important to treat everyone kindly, as we can't fully comprehend another person's experiences. No one is perfect. Criticising is easy, understanding is harder, and forgiving is the hardest, but this is what our Catholic faith asks of us. Please support us and our school in not engaging in this inappropriate behaviour.
We welcome Matilda Schoeman who will be filling the junior Science and classroom release teaching role from this week. We welcome Matilda to the school team and hope her time with us is rewarding.
I wish to acknowledge Gabrielle Cole who has decided to step away from the parent groups that she has been a part of for the past four years. Gabrielle has been a tireless worker in so many spaces and has always been one of the first volunteers to support our school-based events. It is important to know that with more people sharing the load, we can do so much more as a school community. Gabrielle has been a big part of the push to have more people involved in our school community and we are a better-functioning group because of this. Thank you, Gabrielle.
Warm regards
Peter Cutrona
We are into the third week of Lent and this week the Project Compassion story is about Oliva, a 22-year-old woman living in Tanzania, who didn’t have the opportunity to go to school as a child and was struggling to run her business as an adult due to her inability to read, write or count.
Below is the link to the story:

Our Social Worker, Miss Mary, is making her way through our Year 4, 5 and 6 classrooms to discuss the very important topic of online safety. Topics include what is risky online, how to stay safe and what to do.
Miss Mary has given the students some buzz words to keep themselves safe online. Check in if your children remember those!
“MUTE, BLOCK, REPORT” – What we do if someone is unkind, or a stranger tries to access us!
“PROVE IT” – when someone messages online pretending to be someone we know, or someone that knows us.
“NOT COOL” – when someone we know is being unkind online to us or about someone else. This works in real life too.
