Wow, what an unbelievable and truly remarkable performance by our talented year five and six Frozen cast. The feedback from all sources—teachers, parents, and audience members alike—has been nothing short of amazing and overwhelmingly positive. Everyone has been raving about how our young people sang, danced, and performed with such enthusiasm and skill through four captivating shows during the three-day Frozen extravaganza.
We must also take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible dedication and hard work of the two staff members who have been the driving force behind numerous successful shows over the years at our school. Their leadership has been supported by a multitude of staff who generously volunteered their time and energy to help our young people shine. Alongside them, many parent volunteers played a crucial role, assisting tirelessly during practices and onsite throughout the three days of performances.
In addition, we are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from the Prendiville Catholic College staff, who were especially helpful and accommodating over the last four weeks leading up to last weekend's shows. Their assistance has been invaluable in ensuring the success of our production. This collective effort truly highlights the spirit of community and collaboration that makes such events possible and memorable.
Warm regards
Peter Cutrona
Appreciation for Mrs Oliver and Mrs Templeton
SSP would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Templeton for their exceptional dedication to our students at St Simon Peter. Their hard work and commitment, particularly in relation to the CPAF and the Frozen musical, have been truly remarkable.
Their efforts in nurturing our students' musical talents and contributing to the success of these programs have not gone unnoticed. We are deeply grateful for their enthusiasm and tireless dedication.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Templeton for all that you do!

We have two different options for the community to choose. Many children and families did not like the Formal Winter jumper, so we have worked with the suppliers to create a Bomber Jacket style design as an alternative.
We would like you to look at these designs and decide which option you prefer. A SurveyMonkey link will be sent out at the beginning of next week for families to make their choice. The survey will remain open until the end of the term, and the community will be notified of the results at the start of Term 4
Father's Day Stall & Timetable
We want to celebrate our Dads and father figures this Father's Day with a SSP Father's Day Stall.
Kids can choose a special gift for their dad.
Classrooms will visit the stall in allocated time slots - Father's Day Stall Timetable 2024

SSP is thrilled to share some exciting news about one of our remarkable alumni, Tyson Harrington, a proud graduate from the SSP class of 2019, has been appointed as the Head Boy for 2025. Tyson will be taking over the position from Jack Georgiu, a distinguished SSP alumnus from the class of 2018, who has set a high standard for leadership and service. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Tyson and Jack, recognising the outstanding contributions both have made in representing SHC with such distinction.
Our SSP program continues to produce extraordinary young men and women who excel in their endeavours and make a positive impact in their communities.
Well done, Tyson, and we are excited to see the great things you will accomplish in the future.
Are you leaving SSP at the end of this year? If you have a child in a class other than Year 6 and you will not be returning to SSP in 2025, you are required to advise the school's Enrolment Officer by no later than Friday 20 September 2024. These details can be emailed to Helen.florschutz@cewa.edu.au.
The school’s policy states any student leaving the school needs to provide a term’s notice in writing, addressed to the Principal. Failure to provide sufficient notice may mean you will be liable to pay fees for Term 1 2025.
Read LessSOME CONSIDERATIONS AFFECTING PLACEMENT:
- We have 660+ children to place into classes for the start of the year.
- When making decisions, all students' overall academic, social, emotional, psychological, and physical well-being will be acknowledged and considered.
- We consider the needs of each child.
- All classes will represent a range of students' academic and social development abilities.
- “One simple change or request” at a late stage in the process creates a domino effect that significantly impacts previous decisions and creates new issues. For this reason, there will be no changes to the class lists once they have been finalised.
- There is a finite number of options for classes and combinations.
- Children will make and establish friends and settle into a class way better than we often think, if they get lots of encouragement and support, and do not hear adverse reactions to the classes they have been placed in.
FACTORS THAT ARE CONSIDERED IN THE PLACEMENT OF STUDENTS:
- Academic performance
- Work habits e.g. ability to work independently
- Behaviour
- Gender
- Social network
- Social maturity
- Special needs e.g. twins, siblings
- Class placements in previous years
- Classroom observations, and
- Other important information.
PARENT AND CARER COMMITMENT:
Parents and carers commit to supporting the school's Class Placement Policy & Procedure by:
- Supporting and accepting decisions made by the school; and
- Being positive with their child about the class placement decision that has been made.
Please note that classroom placements are not about existing parent and child relationships but the best possible environment for all children in the cohort.
FRIENDSHIP GROUPS:
Every effort will be made to place students with at least one friend. Teachers will invite students to complete a confidential friendship learning survey where they will be asked to nominate up to five students they would like to learn alongside in their class next year. This may include students who are currently in another classroom. Sometimes, it is advantageous for some students not to be placed together.
It is acknowledged by all that friendships are important. However, to ensure balanced classes as outlined above, friendship groups are not a primary determining factor in class placement.
PARENT INPUT:
Parents and carers may wish to share any important information that they believe should be considered in the placement of their child/children. This should be important information that the school or current class teacher may not be aware of and for this reason, most parents will not need to respond.
Please note the school cannot guarantee that parent requests will be met.
If you believe that you do need to provide us with extra information that sits outside the information provided above, then please use the link to the following online form.

Year 3 - Year 6 Athletics Throws and Jumps Finals
SSP is thrilled to announce a new addition to our athletics program this year: the Athletics Throws and Jumps Finals, scheduled for Wednesday 28th August.
Students who qualify in the top 8 boys and top 8 girls per year level will compete in the finals for Shot Put, Turbo Javelin, and Long Jump. Throughout their Physical Education lessons, students will have opportunities to practice and then participate in three official throws and jumps to secure a spot in the top 8. Once qualifications are finalised, we will inform the students and send out the finals program to all Year 3-6 parents one week prior to the event.
The Throws and Jumps Finals will be held in two sessions:
- Year 3 and Year 4 will compete before recess.
- Year 5 and Year 6 will compete between recess and lunch.
Students who place in the top 4 for each event will earn individual championship points, contributing to the titles of Champion Boy and Champion Girl.
Due to the time required for the 200m, 400m, and 800m events, these will be conducted during class sessions, with results shared via Seesaw. We will also notify students and parents if a child qualifies for inter-school selection, with detailed information provided closer to the event.
Additionally, our St Simon Peter Tabloid Day on Friday 6th September, will feature team games and final individual events, including sprints that will determine the last individual championship points. Medal presentations and the awarding of the winning House shield will conclude the day.
We look forward to an exciting and action-packed athletics season!
Kind regards,
Zac Waddell

Why Talking with Babies is Super Important!
Talking with babies helps them learn to understand and use words, which is key for their brain growth and future learning. Here’s how you can make it fun and helpful:
- Talk About Everything: Describe what you're doing, even if it's boring. For example, say, "I'm washing dishes now."
- Repeat Their Sounds: If they say "mama," you can say, "Yes, mama loves you!"
- Show Interest: Look into their eyes and smile when they babble or talk.
- Talk About What They Like: If they play with a toy train, say, "Toot, toot!"
- Read Together: Look at picture books and name what you see. Point to a cat and say, "Look, a cat! Can you say cat?"
- Praise Them: If they point to a dog and say "dog," you can say, "Well done for pointing out the dog!"
- Ask Questions: Even though they can't answer, asking questions helps them learn about conversations. For example, ask, "Do you want your teddy bear?" and then give it to them.
Doing these fun activities helps babies learn to talk and gets their brains ready for learning more as they grow!
