- The BRAVE Program
I will be on leave from St Simon Peter for the following two weeks, undertaking long service leave and work with the Australian Primary Principal Body at the national conference in Wellington. During my absence, Clodagh Manifold will be the Short Term Principal with Natalie Saville taking over the Assistant Principal role for this two week period. Simone Duncan who is very familiar with our school will be the Year 6 teacher in 6M during this time.
You will have received a letter regarding changes to childcare and OSHC services for the school from the beginning of 2025. Our aim with these changes is to ensure that we can provide the appropriate level of service for our school families based on the needs of our school community. In 2024, we have been able to increase the placements for after school care by more than 30 from previous years and this was in response to the extra need for this service by our school community.
When members of our school community encounter issues that they feel don't align with our school expectations, we ask that they communicate this information through the school administration rather than attempting to address the issue themselves. While we expect adults to take necessary actions if someone is in imminent danger, situations like incorrect parking do not require direct interaction and are likely to create further issues. The school will ensure that any necessary discussions take place in a manner that ensures the best outcome for everyone, especially our children. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Reflecting on our school prayer last week during the junior assembly, I was struck by how well the children can recite it by heart. This prompted me to reflect on the words and ask myself questions about how I embody the prayer's words. The questions I thought of are in bold.
Loving Father,
Send us the Spirit of Jesus
Guide us each day on our journey together.
How am I guided in my journey by the people around me?
Help us to greet with an open heart
How do I greet people in a friendly and open way?
to treat with respect
How do I show respect for others daily in my interactions with them?
to speak with kindness
Do I speak kindly to people at every opportunity?
and to show our love for one another
How do I show my love for others through my words and actions?
Thank you for your many gifts.
How do I show others that I am thankful for what I have?
St Simon Peter, pray for us.
As members of our school community, these important questions prompt us to reflect on how we live by our school motto, "Love One Another." I hope my thoughts serve as food for thought, encouraging others to reflect on and recognise their positive contributions to our community.
Warm regards
Peter Cutrona
This year, we conducted a survey among current Pre-Primary parents to gather preferences for the Year 1 uniform for 2025. Out of 65 respondents, an impressive 76% expressed a preference for their children to wear the current sport uniform rather than the formal uniform.
In light of these results and in alignment with the school’s new direction for uniforms, starting in 2025, students from Kindy through to Year 1 will be required to wear the school sport uniform.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey. We believe this change will support a more comfortable and practical school experience for our younger students.

SSP Uniforms Survey Closing Soon 13th September
Last term, we posted the results of the uniform surveys, and the SSP community agreed that the girls would have one uniform all year round (like the boys), with slight adjustments for Winter. We have two different options for the community to choose. Many children and families did not like the Formal Winter jumper, so we have worked with the suppliers to create a Bomber Jacket style design as an alternative.
We would like you to look at these designs and decide which option you prefer. Please click on the link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/36NF9VL
The survey will remain open until the end of the term, and the community will be notified of the results at the start of Term 4
As we approach the end of Term 3, we would like to remind all families that there are only three more weeks left to purchase summer uniforms for Term 4. Please note that the Uniform Shop will be closed during the school holidays, so now is the perfect time to get your uniforms sorted.
Important Uniform Shop Hours for Term 4:
- New Trading Hours on Fridays: 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM
- Entrance After 3:00 PM: Please use Gate #5
We encourage you to visit the shop before the end of the term to ensure that you have everything your child needs for the upcoming term. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

SSP Grandparents Day is on Thursday 19 September 2024.
We celebrate our Grandparents with a mass starting at 9am for Year 1 – Year 6 students. Seating will be reserved for grandparents/families in labelled pews towards the back of the church. Students will be seated with their class.
Following mass, grandparents are invited over to the school to visit classrooms and enjoy a morning tea in the hall. The morning tea is for grandparents and parents to enjoy. Adults are asked to bring their own cup for morning tea, if possible.
Students will be eating their normal recess at the break time, but you are welcome to collect your grandchild/ren for them to join you in the hall. Adults are asked to please take children back to their classrooms at the end.
These celebrations will conclude at recess time (10:50am)

SOME CONSIDERATIONS AFFECTING PLACEMENT:
- We have 660+ children to place into classes for the start of the year.
- When making decisions, all students' overall academic, social, emotional, psychological, and physical well-being will be acknowledged and considered.
- We consider the needs of each child.
- All classes will represent a range of students' academic and social development abilities.
- “One simple change or request” at a late stage in the process creates a domino effect that significantly impacts previous decisions and creates new issues. For this reason, there will be no changes to the class lists once they have been finalised.
- There is a finite number of options for classes and combinations.
- Children will make and establish friends and settle into a class way better than we often think, if they get lots of encouragement and support, and do not hear adverse reactions to the classes they have been placed in.
FACTORS THAT ARE CONSIDERED IN THE PLACEMENT OF STUDENTS:
- Academic performance
- Work habits e.g. ability to work independently
- Behaviour
- Gender
- Social network
- Social maturity
- Special needs e.g. twins, siblings
- Class placements in previous years
- Classroom observations, and
- Other important information.
PARENT AND CARER COMMITMENT:
Parents and carers commit to supporting the school's Class Placement Policy & Procedure by:
- Supporting and accepting decisions made by the school; and
- Being positive with their child about the class placement decision that has been made.
Please note that classroom placements are not about existing parent and child relationships but the best possible environment for all children in the cohort.
FRIENDSHIP GROUPS:
Every effort will be made to place students with at least one friend. Teachers will invite students to complete a confidential friendship learning survey where they will be asked to nominate up to five students they would like to learn alongside in their class next year. This may include students who are currently in another classroom. Sometimes, it is advantageous for some students not to be placed together.
It is acknowledged by all that friendships are important. However, to ensure balanced classes as outlined above, friendship groups are not a primary determining factor in class placement.
PARENT INPUT:
Parents and carers may wish to share any important information that they believe should be considered in the placement of their child/children. This should be important information that the school or current class teacher may not be aware of and for this reason, most parents will not need to respond.
Please note the school cannot guarantee that parent requests will be met.
If you believe that you do need to provide us with extra information that sits outside the information provided above, then please use the link to the following online form.
Classroom Placement Information Form
Are you leaving SSP at the end of this year? If you have a child in a class other than Year 6 and you will not be returning to SSP in 2025, you are required to advise the school's Enrolment Officer by no later than Friday 20 September 2024. These details can be emailed to Helen.florschutz@cewa.edu.au.
The school’s policy states any student leaving the school needs to provide a term’s notice in writing, addressed to the Principal. Failure to provide sufficient notice may mean you will be liable to pay fees for Term 1 2025.
