Bricks 4 Kids Incursion Year 2 - By Scott Mills and Molly Lenaghan
On Wednesday 13 March the Year 2’s had an incursion in the Hall. We made Lego robots with wheels. You could program them to move forwards, backwards and to stop. We buddied up with people to work together. We had to use the computer to programme the robot. We had an electrical cord plugged into a socket so that the computer could ‘talk to’ the robot.
What I liked about this incursion was seeing the robot move and how it could walk. I also liked seeing the other robots that people built and how they moved (Molly).
It was a good incursion as it was quite challenging to fit the right bits into the right parts (Scott).
Parent/teacher interviews for Pre-Primary to Year 6 will take place in Weeks 9 and 10 of this term.
These meetings are very important as a means of checking in on your child’s progress at school, so please ensure that at least one parent is able to attend. Notes with times will be sent home by class teachers.

Harmony Day is celebrated on 21 March every year. It is organised by the Australian Government and is a day to celebrate our culturally diverse society.
Although Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have lived in Australia for thousands and thousands of years, most of Australia’s population is made up of people whose families only arrived in the country within the last 200 years.
All the different cultures that come together in Australia bring many things with them: different foods, ways of dressing, languages, customs and beliefs.
Harmony Day is about us all celebrating these differences and learning about new cultures.

Friends of St Simon Peter Survey Results and Meeting Agenda
Our survey was strong in its resolve to make our FSSP function effectively for another year. Looking at the data some conclusions can be drawn:
- The best time to meet was not conclusive, but a slight majority rested with meeting at 7.00pm.
- The Friends of SSP levy will NOT be effected at all.
- For 2019, the HOPE, Fundraising and Social Teams will continue to function.
- 40% of respondents want to be involved with FSSP.
- We have some names (3) who want to be part of some focus group work leading to our new SSP Strategic Plan (2020-2021).
- Strong support for the FSSP meeting format to include input on learning and how this works at SSP.
Our Term 1 meeting is scheduled for Monday 25 March at 7.00pm, in the Hub, for one hour.
All parents are invited (Mums, Dads and Carers) as well as our HOPE parents and the Fundraising and Social Team members who are asked to attend this meeting, along with any new families who would be most welcome.

Never know what to ask in a parent-teacher interview? Here are my top suggestions:
IS MY CHILD HAPPY?
- It’s the right question to ask and for many parents it remains the most important – and for good reason.
IS MY CHILD ENGAGED IN CLASS IN GENERAL AND DO THEY ENJOY LEARNING?
- Ask the teacher or teachers about your child’s attitude towards learning in general and especially their effort level in class.
HOW HAS MY CHILD’S EDUCATION IMPROVED DURING THE YEAR?
- This question gives you more useful information than just whether your child is getting an A, B, C, D or E.
WHERE SHOULD MY CHILD BE NOW?
- Where should my child’s learning be for their year group and age - not just compared to other students in their class, but also compared to the expected national standards?
WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO LEARN NEXT?
- It’s important to understand this so you know what to do at home to help your child progress to the next stage of learning.

Lives Change When We All Give 100%
Our Social Justice committee, comprised of Year Six students, are taking on the responsibility throughout the school of keeping Project Compassion at the front of everyone’s minds. This is an opportunity for students to learn about life in different countries through the personal stories of people who have participated in Caritas Australia supported programs. These programs combine videos, stories and discussion to encourage us to learn, pray, reflect and act by contributing to our Project Compassion box in our classroom. Each week during Lent we will listen to stories of people who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Below is a photo of the students on our Social Justice Committee.
