- St Simon Peter Parish Christmas Raffle
It has been an extremely busy time at school, with this week filled with Year 3 Reconciliation, the music showcase, and the Karen Young parent talk. As mentioned in a previous Principal's post, the final term is exceptionally busy, and this week exemplifies that. Over the next week, we will also have the Colour Fun Run and open nominations for parents to join the Catholic School Advisory Council and the Friends of St Simon Peter parent committee. Please watch for information about both in upcoming school correspondence.
Please reserve Tuesday, 26 November, at 6 pm for the Annual Community Meeting. We will present annual reports from both the CSAC and FSSP, as well as information regarding teacher placements and school fees for 2025.
We are currently finalising Kindergarten enrolments for 2026, with a few places left for current families. Enrolments will close in two weeks, so we urge any current family with a child born between 1 July 2021 and 30 June 2022 to complete the enrolment paperwork as soon as possible to secure a place. This year marks the first time we have enrolled two years prior to kindergarten entry. With this placement tied to enrolment in 3YO kindy and future long day care places, there are already waiting lists for those services, hence the urgency for current families to complete the necessary paperwork.
I am currently interstate, attending the final meetings of the Australian Principal Associations I have served for several years. This will be my last week-long meeting, with some minor events over the following weeks to complete my term on the three boards. I would like to thank the three assistant principals who have superbly supported me in fulfilling these roles during my dual responsibilities: Clodagh Manifold, Nicole Crosthwaite, and for the previous two years, Fiona Green. They have ensured the smooth running of the school during my absence and brought to life the shared role of the school leadership team.
Warm regards
Peter Cutrona
Principal

Uniform Changes
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the families who participated in the recent uniform survey. With a total of 322 responses, it is clear that uniform policies are a significant concern for our community, and we appreciate your engagement.
We are excited to announce some upcoming changes to our school uniform that aim to better reflect our school spirit while ensuring comfort and practicality for our students. Here are the key updates:
New Uniform Items
- White Shirt: The beige shirt will be replaced by a crisp white shirt.
- Bomber Jacket: Starting in 2026, a stylish bomber jacket will take the place of the current jumper.
Phase-Out Plan
- Current Uniforms: Students will continue wearing the existing uniforms until stock runs out. We anticipate that new uniforms will be fully integrated by the end of 2027.
Changes Starting in 2025
- Kindergarten to Year 1: A compulsory sports uniform will be introduced, which includes sport socks and enclosed predominately white or black Velcro sport shoes.
- Formal Uniforms: All formal uniforms will require shirts to be tucked in, along with formal black shoes for both summer and winter; sneakers and sandals will no longer be permitted.
- Girls' Options: Girls will have the option to wear the boys' maroon shorts or maroon pants.
- Winter Attire: The winter pinafore will be phased out and replaced with a plaid skirt or plaid skort, paired with the new shirt.
- Maroon Rain Jacket: This item will no longer be available for purchase.
- Summer Dresses: Once the current stock of summer dresses is sold out, girls will transition to the new plaid skirt or skort.
- Maroon Skort: Starting from Term 4, the maroon skort will not be available for sale and will be replaced by the plaid skirt or skort.
- Beige Socks and Stockings Sale: We will hold a sale on beige socks and beige stockings for girls. Once this stock is depleted, only sport socks and black stockings will be available.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we implement these changes to enhance our school uniform policy. Our aim is to foster a sense of unity and pride within our school community while ensuring that our students are comfortable and well-prepared for their school day.
Thank you for your continued support!
SSP Students Shine At The Side By Side Competition
On Thursday, October 24, four talented SSP students, Claire Petrich, Harry Kingston, Eamon Petrich and Tadhg McLennan represented our school at the side by side Competition, organised by the Modern Language Teachers' Association of WA. These students dedicated their time and effort in Term 2 to prepare video submissions showcasing their Indonesian dialogue skills.
The competition was held at Willetton Senior High School, where finalists performed live in front of an enthusiastic audience of over 200 teachers, judges, and fellow participants. We are thrilled to announce that Claire Petrich and Harry Kingston secured first place in the Indonesian category for Year 3 with their impressive video submission.
In an outstanding achievement, Tadhg McLennan and Eamon Petrich also clinched first place in the Indonesian category for Year 5 and were recognised as overall winners for Year 5, thanks to their expressive and fluent performance during the live event.
Congratulations to all our students for their remarkable achievements! A heartfelt thank you to Ibu Harding for her unwavering support and encouragement in fostering their Indonesian language development. Your dedication has made a significant impact on our students’ success!

The City of Joondalup is thrilled to announce the installation of a new speed radar sign within our school precinct. This initiative is part of our and the city’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. The sign will be installed between the two schools on Prendiville Avenue,
The speed radar sign will serve as a constant reminder for drivers to adhere to the speed limits, especially during school peak periods. By raising awareness of speeding, this will create a safer environment for everyone. We kindly ask therefore, for your cooperation in observing the speed limits and encouraging others to do the same.
The speed radar sign is the result of the City of Joondalup obtaining grant funding from the Australian Governments Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts to raise awareness of the impacts of speeding through the Joondalup Speed Awareness and Education Campaign. The signs will be installed in November 2024 for approximately six months.
