Thank you to everyone who attended last night's ACM. Our meeting covered several important areas regarding our school community, particularly the work of the FSSP and CSAC. The parents who have served on these committees have generously given their time, significantly improving our school. Information regarding 2024 NAPLAN results was also provided, as was the 2025 staffing information. Please view the AGM slides below for reference to the CSAC chair report, the FSSP President report, and the Principal report provided last night.
A special mention goes to the FSSP members who have chosen not to renew their roles in 2025 Sarah Jane Deeny, Amy Carpenter, Sam Morgan and Lara Kynastan. Thank you for your valuable support in various committee roles and helping build our strong community. Your coordination of fundraising and friend-raising through the various events has benefited the school financially and socially. We have two people currently part of that 2025 FSSP team, Kate Holman who has remained on the team and Tori Whitley who was nominated for the vacant positions. The school will now seek several other parents to be seconded onto the committee as per the requirements around the Terms of Reference document for P&F’s
We also thank our two departing CSAC member, Sabrina Szu who has been a member of the Finance Committee over the past several years. Sabrina has completed her maximum term on the CSAC and we wish to thank her for the time and expertise that she has provided our school during her time on this school committee. Two applicants were nominated for the vacant position with Sarah Deeny being successful in a vote of the parents in attendance at the meeting.
You will find the ACM slideshow from last night below, which contains detailed information shared with our school community. 2025 staff information is included and we will farewell all departing staff in our final newsletter next week.
Within the Finance report, the 2025 school fees were presented.
Catholic Education WA has recommended a 5.5% increase in tuition fees for 2025. Since SSP has not raised fees in the past two years, the CSAC has endorsed the fee increase as recommended for 2025. In the ACM slides, you will see a school fee comparison from 2022-2025 which included a significant fee reduction in 2023.
Sibling discounts will continue to be available for families with children at our school and Prendiville Catholic College. Please note that conditions apply to the discount scheme with Prendiville; further details can be found on our school website.
Families holding a valid concession card may apply for a health care card rebate, which will be credited to their school fee account to provide financial assistance. More information about this rebate is also available on the school website.
The complete 2025 school fee schedule can be found below.
Class lists for the upcoming 2025 academic year will be emailed to each returning parent next Monday. Due to the extensive planning and consideration that has gone into finalising these arrangements, we must emphasise that there is no capacity for modifications or adjustments to these placements. We appreciate your understanding and support of our placement process.
Warm regards
Peter Cutrona
Principal
REMINDER - 2024 Payment Plans for School Fees Are Due to be Finalised on 6 December 2024
Please be reminded, if you are paying your school fee account by way of an approved payment plan, that your fees are due to be paid in full by no later than 6 December 2024 (or as agreed to by the Principal).
Updated School Fee Statements were previously sent out to all families via email. If you did not receive your statement, please contact us via email to ssp.fees@cewa.edu.au, or call 9301 6828.
If you need to arrange payment of your fees, please contact Helen Florschutz on 9301 6828, where payment can be taken over the phone. Payments can also be made via Bpay (details of your Bpay Biller Code and Reference Number are contained in your statement), or in person in the Front Admin Office.
If you are paying your school fees by way of Direct Debit and you are up-to-date with your payments, there is nothing for you to do in this instance as these payments will continue to be deducted automatically until their end date.
St Simon Peter CPS is very mindful that there may be families who may be experiencing a significant change in their financial circumstances, but who may not meet the criteria for assistance under the school Health Care Card Scheme.
Where assistance regarding your current situation and school fees is required, please contact Helen Florschutz, via email to ssp.fees@cewa.edu.au, as a matter of urgency, so that a confidential meeting with Mr Cutrona can be organised to discuss your situation.
Any family that has outstanding fees and do not make contact with us as a matter of extreme urgency, runs the risk of being referred to the school’s debt collection agency to take further action.
2025 Health Care Card Tuition Fee Discount Scheme
2025 School Fees - Health Care Card (HCC) and Pension Card (PCC) Tuition Fee Discount Scheme
The Health Care Card Tuition Fee Discount Scheme offers a discount on tuition fees to holders of a means-tested family Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card that is registered in the Parent or Guardian’s name responsible for payment of school fees and lists the student/s name on the card.
Parents in this category can apply for the concession by completing the Health Care Card Parent Application Form and presenting their CURRENT, valid card, along with the completed form in person to our Admin Reception Office (open between 8.00am and 4.00pm each day) prior to 4.00pm on Friday 6 December 2024. These forms must be completed and signed at the time your card is presented IN PERSON for copying, as electronic applications cannot be accepted. This will ensure the discount is applied when your fees are being issued at the beginning of 2025.
It is a CEWA requirement that these forms must be completed EVERY year.
Please direct all queries to our Finance Office via email to ssp.fees@cewa.edu.au.

Uniform Changes
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the families who participated in the recent uniform survey. With a total of 322 responses, it is clear that uniform policies are a significant concern for our community, and we appreciate your engagement.
We are excited to announce some upcoming changes to our school uniform that aim to better reflect our school spirit while ensuring comfort and practicality for our students. Here are the key updates:
New Uniform Items
- White Shirt: The beige shirt will be replaced by a crisp white shirt.
- Bomber Jacket: Starting in 2026, a stylish bomber jacket will take the place of the current jumper.
Phase-Out Plan
- Current Uniforms: Students will continue wearing the existing uniforms until stock runs out. We anticipate that new uniforms will be fully integrated by the end of 2027.
Changes Starting in 2025
- Kindergarten to Year 1: A compulsory sports uniform will be introduced, which includes sport socks and enclosed predominately white or black Velcro sport shoes.
- Formal Uniforms: All formal uniforms will require shirts to be tucked in, along with formal black shoes for both summer and winter; sneakers and sandals will no longer be permitted.
- Girls' Options: Girls will have the option to wear the boys' maroon shorts or maroon pants.
- Winter Attire: The winter pinafore will be phased out and replaced with a plaid skirt or plaid skort, paired with the new shirt.
- Maroon Rain Jacket: This item will no longer be available for purchase.
- Summer Dresses: Once the current stock of summer dresses is sold out, girls will transition to the new plaid skirt or skort.
- Maroon Skort: Starting from Term 4, the maroon skort will not be available for sale and will be replaced by the plaid skirt or skort.
- Beige Socks and Stockings Sale: We will hold a sale on beige socks and beige stockings for girls. Once this stock is depleted, only sport socks and black stockings will be available.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we implement these changes to enhance our school uniform policy. Our aim is to foster a sense of unity and pride within our school community while ensuring that our students are comfortable and well-prepared for their school day.
Thank you for your continued support!

Message From Ms. Mary - Embracing The Ups And Downs
As the school year comes to an end, many of us are feeling a mix of emotions. School reports are coming home, class lists are being released, and those highly anticipated leadership roles are being announced. And as parents, we’re right there with them feeling the excitement, the relief and the natural disappointments.
Disappointment is hard, seeing our kids hurting is hard and as parents we instantly want to fix it. However, without a bit of disappointment, our kids miss out on the chance to build resilience (the golden goose of traits!). They need to feel it, to process it, to learn that it’s okay to be disappointed sometimes.
So, if your child comes home upset that they didn’t get the grades they hoped for or missed out on a leadership role, it’s okay to sit with them in that feeling. Try saying something like, “Yeah, that’s super disappointing kiddo. It’s okay to feel sad. I’m right here with you.” You don’t have to fix it. Sometimes, the best thing we can do is just listen and acknowledge how they’re feeling.
Disappointment is a tough but a necessary teacher. It’s a reminder that we don’t always get what we want, and that’s okay. It’s how we learn patience and how we keep moving forward. When our kids face setbacks, let’s focus on the effort they put in, not just the outcome. Not every kid is going to win the race, make the team or become the leader and it is our job to remind our kids that their worth is not based on those things. Our SSP students, tackle some tough challenges every single day inside and outside school and they’re all little legends in my eyes, no matter their achievements. It's super important to celebrate their courage and determination during the process, not just the end result.
Let’s also acknowledge that the end of the school year is exhausting for kids and parents. You might be seeing more meltdowns or mood swings, and that’s completely normal. My advice? Don’t rush to fix it and just be there. You might say, “I can see you’re feeling overwhelmed. It’s been a big year, and it’s okay to be tired, cranky and over it. Why don’t we cool down our hot cup of Milo and take a minute.”. Cooling down our hot Milo is a breathing technique most kids in the school are aware of now, long slow deep breaths out to help us feel relaxed.
And lastly, our kids learn so much by watching us. When was the last time you said out loud that you were disappointed? Try it next time something doesn’t go your way - “I was really hoping for that to work out, but it didn’t, and that’s disappointing. I’m going to sit with that for a bit, but I know it’ll pass.”
Disappointment is a part of life, and it’s nothing to be afraid of. Every feeling has its place, and they’re all temporary. So, let’s embrace all the highs, lows and everything in between as we reach the end of 2024.
You’ve got this – and so do they.
