Our school community came together this morning at our special Assembly to remember all the Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served".
We would like to thank Robbie Hughes-Hall's Grandfather, Lieutenant Commander Robert Hughes from the Australian Navy Cadets, having served in the Royal Navy for the past 34 years, for coming in and speaking at our Assembly this morning. We also acknowledge Alice Bollen for her moving rendition of the Last Post on trumpet.
The Circle of Courage identifies four universal growth needs as belonging, mastery, independence and generosity. These provide a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for students and staff, where students have opportunities to engage in quality learning experiences and acquire values supportive of their lifelong wellbeing.
Belonging, mastery, independence and generosity are vital elements of positive growth. A young person who grows up in a supportive environment will attach to positive and caring adults who support the child to achieve, gain independence and contribute to the community around them. For teachers, the Circle of Courage® offers a foundation from which to view children and underpins a Positive Learning Framework that enables them to structure a safe and accountable learning environment.
Our focus area in Term 2 is Generosity with the mantra, I am kind.
When we help others, we discover we have the power to influence their world in a positive way. In the classroom, cooperative learning opportunities also assist in providing opportunities to collaborate with other students, share opinions and attempt to see the real world from other perspectives.

These exciting initiatives have been in the planning stages for about two years and will see SSP open their classrooms in 2019 to students and families from China to experience life here in Australia, whilst attending our award winning school.
Starting in 2019 we will offer opportunities for families from China (Fujian & Xiamen City) who have young children wanting to experience schooling in Australia. We offer a maximum of 24 places at our school, twice a year — March and July/August and this experience, for now, will be for 4 weeks (Weeks 2-5) in Term 3 and scheduled on the school calendar. Our visitors/students will be paying school fees during this time to be a part of this program.
We offer places (current vacancies) in Kindy, Pre Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 with a maximum of nine places per year level being offered for places in the China Project. Mrs Toni Carrigan will be coordinating the program together with one of our parents, who is also a School Board member, Mrs Sabrina Zhu, will be our school ambassador for family and school liaison.
Our goals are as follows:
- Have students engage in global education initiatives.
- To be exposed to the global school enrolment market.
- To provide a forum for the exchange of cultures at SSP.
- Provide funding for the student innovation and resourcing of special projects at SSP.
Expectations:
- We would encourage visiting students to speak English whilst at school to help improve their proficiency.
- Children will attend daily classes and follow the teacher's timetable and follow SSP policies.
- Children to dress in their own school uniform whilst attending SSP (if applicable).
- Parents can partake in any scheduled school activities or events that they are invited to. Parents must observe and respect the class teacher’s protocols for the classroom.
We look forward to putting the finishing touches to this new program during the term.
