The Magic coat is a tool that has been developed to help create confident, calm and caring kids who know how to problem solve, feel safe and manage their emotions appropriately so that they have good mental health and wellbeing.
The program helps children learn to take control and responsibility for their own world and to create positive relationships with adults and children around them.
Working as a special education teacher I have found that there is a strong need to help the children develop their social emotional skills and basic life skills. I did some research last year and found a new program called the Magic Coat. Although the program is designed for mainstream classrooms, I have been trialling The Magic Coat three times per week since Term 1, with the children that I work with in the Catherine Centre. It has been wonderful to see the positive progress so far. We were very lucky to have a visit from Di Wilcox the founder and author to see us in action.

Often by the time parents hear about the bullying that has been taking place, it has been going on for quite some time. This can lead to us as parents questioning what we did wrong. In this instalment of ParentTV, Rachel Downie discusses why children don't speak up when they are being subjected to bullying.
Rachel Downie is an educator, speaker and social entrepreneur who specialises in bullying and self-harm prevention.
Rachel has worked in public and private school settings since 1996, across four states in many different roles. Students have filled her every day at work as Head of Faculty, Head of Welfare, Deputy Principal and Classroom Teacher and she loved every moment.
Over the last 10 years, Rachel has seen bullying and harm (particularly online) spiral out of control and it doesn’t discriminate. After a student in her community took his life, she decided to actively work to change Australia’s cultural acceptance of bullying and started Stymie; an anonymous online reporting system for use in schools nationally.

Read LessAre you leaving SSP at the end of this year? If you have a child in a class other than Year 6 and you will not be returning to SSP in 2020, you are required to advise us, as soon as possible, as there are a number of families on our waiting lists requiring places. These details can be emailed to admin@ssp.wa.edu.au.
The school’s policy states any student leaving the school needs to provide a term’s notice in writing, addressed to the Principal. Failure to provide sufficient notice may mean you will be liable to pay fees for Term 1 2020.

Students have the opportunity to lead their parents through their learning and discuss the activities and concepts they have been involved in. Parents are able to question the students on their learning and also provide feedback to them.
Thank you to all those students who have handed in their sponsorship form and money raised for the Fun Run.
We ask that all sponsorship money be sent into school by the end of this week so that we can announce our grand total (it is currently just under $5,000.00).
Special thanks to the FSSP Fundraising and Social Committee for all their work in planning and running this special event.
Reminder - 2019 Tabloid Carnival
Please be reminded that the school tabloid carnival will be held on the first Friday of Term 4 - 18 October, 2019.
All students from Pre Primary to Year 6 will be involved in a number of group based and individual sporting contests throughout the day, all with the purpose of helping their team to win the House Shield. Students have been busy preparing for the carnival throughout this term and Interschool Athletics selections will be based on performances in PE lessons and at the Tabloid Carnival.
Some parent help is required on carnival day, so if you are able to assist please email Mr Thompson on lee.thompson@cewa.edu.au with the times that you are available. Any assistance is greatly appreciated and will go towards your Give 10 hours.

Read LessWoolworths has announced their latest promotional campaign. They are giving away seedling kits of a variety of different vegetables when you spend $30.00 or more in any Woolworths store.
If you are not a green thumb and do not wish to use the seedling kit yourself, we would love it if you would donate any seedling kits you earn to the school's Sustainability Team for use in our Sustainability Garden. Please drop any seedling kits to the front admin office.
We will use these seeds in our Sustainability Centre and, once they are fully grown, we will sell the produce at our farmers market. This is a very easy and kind way to give back to the school community and we thank you for your support.

Our Year 4 students are celebrating the Sacrament of First Holy Communion this term.
As Catholics, we know that the Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith: it is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Pope Francis has called it the "Sacrament of Love".
Below are some photos of students and families enjoying this special Sacrament last weekend.
SSP’s MJR Day raised a total of $4,362.70. Our Social Justice Committee met to discuss which charities we would support with the money raised. The students and Miss Manifold discussed supporting Catholic charities and other charities that our school community have a connection with. Below are all the organisations that will benefit from our school’s generous support:
St Vincent De Paul | Lifelink | Perth Children’s Hospital |
Epilepsy WA | SSP Parish | WA Special Needs Christmas Party |
Beyond Blue | Caritas | Diabetes WA |
Autism Association | Bright Blue | Down Syndrome WA |
