A lot of pekerjaan baik (good work) is happening in Indonesian. Our Kelas Empat (Year 4) students have been making ebooks about their daily schedule – naturally they are using Indonesian words. Here are some sample gambar-gambar (pictures) – do you know what they say?
I get dressed at half past seven. I go to school at eight o’clock.

Friends of St Simon Peter (FSSP) Update
During the COVID-19 period we have not been able to meet as a group since our meeting in Term 1. Our FSSP team structure (HOPE, Social and Fundraising, Canteen) however has allowed for some work to continue during this time which is good news. Our HOPE reps have been very useful by keeping the ear to the ground and helping out where possible. We have had a number of new families join our school during the pandemic and I hope they have all settled in now. Some meals have been distributed and will need replenishing of which we have a plan for this to happen.
Our Canteen finally was able to open and get up and running thanks to our new Manager, Rebecca Mauk, and staff, Lisa Marshall and Jessica Yurisich. We do need some volunteers to help out now that orders are back to normal, especially now that we have a new menu for both students and staff. More on this in the next newsletter.
Our fundraising team have been keeping in touch and have some ideas for discussion. We hope that the FSSP Teams continue to chat and talk about new ideas and can report back to our meeting next term. This is how the model works – we don’t have to wait for a meeting to start working on some ideas.
Our focus for 2020 is outside playgrounds and again our team of four (including two parents from FSSP) being coordinated by Tony Nunn (Chair of the Capital Development and Maintenance Team here at the school that reports directly to the School Board) has not been able to meet or even enter the school grounds!! This team will get active in Semester 2 to complete the task of reviewing our playgrounds and replacing them.
Our next FSSP meeting is set for Monday 3 August at 7.00pm in the Hub and we will have a guest speaker from the staff to talk to us about our Vision for Learning that has been in development for a couple of years now.

Read LessThe process has begun for the appointment of a new Principal at SSP. This position has become available due to Mr Baker completing his contract tenure of 12 years. From 2021, Mr Baker will be working in his leadership coaching and consulting business next year to assist leaders and their wellbeing.
The Staff and School Board were briefed by CEWA recently and the Board Chair will be on the interview panel with other CEWA appointed members that will be working together over the next two weeks with the intention of appointing a new Principal to SSP starting in January 2021.
We wish them all the best in their deliberations.

We are seeking feedback from our school community (staff, students and parents) on our recent remote learning experience as a result of the COVID-19 closure. All parents are asked to please take a few minutes to complete the survey, by no later than 3.00pm on Monday 22 June 2020. All responses are anonymous. Thank you for your support.

Read LessMonday 29 June 2020 is the feast of Saint Peter and Paul. Peter was the rock on which Jesus built his church; his faith was a great source of strength for the early Christians. Paul was a missionary, whose aim in life was to share the Good News that had transformed his life. Together they were the greatest leaders of the early church.
St Simon Peter will recognise this feast by celebrating SSP Day on Thursday 2 July 2020 (Week 10). This will obviously look a little different this year with the restrictions that are in place. Parents and other family members will not be able to join us this year.
All money raised goes to various charities, chosen by student representatives.
Our plan for the day is:
- Free dress day for a gold coin donation
- A digital Prayer service streamed to all classrooms at 9.00am. A link to this will also be sent home to all families. This will include reflections from students, staff and an ex-student from SSP
- Classes will run stalls after lunch with classes going out at staggered times. Stalls finish at 2.40pm and gates will open after stalls have been packed up
