Kindy Blue recently enjoyed some fun measuring activities using non standard units. We made our own handprint measuring tapes and went outside to measure some items in our Kindy playground. We also measured our friends using lengths of string and then compared them to see which was the longest and shortest string and who was the tallest child in our class.
Kindy Maroon have been exploring patterns. We have been making and finishing repeated patterns using 2 or 3 shapes. We also collected materials in the kindy playground and made our own nature patterns.
In Kindy Maroon we also have started a “beautiful things” project. The children collected beautiful things from home and brought them into kindy. We then sorted them and did different activities which included patterning, counting and recycling. We have ended the project with a gorgeous alphabet and number frieze which we have displayed around the room.
Over the past few weeks students in Kindy White have been busy exploring the properties of magnets at our Science Learning Area. They have sorted items and used a magnetic wand to navigate a magnetic counter over a path.
We have been excitedly anticipating the arrival our new mud kitchen which has been installed over the school holiday break ... watch this space!

Communication at SSP was important and parents rated the school 4 out of 5 in this area. Parents reported that the most useful form of communication was Seesaw (52), Email (49) and Schoolzine (35). Remote learning was viewed favourable with 112 parents deeming it either satisfactory or very satisfactory.
Parents reported that their child missed friends, the routine and staff.

Read LessThe semester reports went live this morning, Wednesday 1 July 2020. There are some changes to the report that will still be using the normal SEQTA school reporting template, but it will look different. These changes have arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that school became non-compulsory for students for up-to a period of eight weeks during the semester.
During this time, we offered online learning for students which, for many reasons, worked for some families but not others, which is completely understandable. The assessment of the work set during this time was difficult for teachers to set expectations for and to judge the standard of work as they do when face to face teaching in the classroom.
This report will not look like the report described on page 2 of the reporting template that comes home to you, so please ignore this information. We will return to this template in Semester 2 where each learning area will be graded A-E as well as all the other components of the report being fully completed. This approach is being set for all Catholic schools in Western Australia and following the direction of SCSA (School Curriculum and Standards Authority) which is the legislated authority for assessment in all schools in WA.
For the Semester 1 Report we will only be giving an effort grade for RE, English and Mathematics; plus the completion of the social emotional and behavioural checklist and a general comment on your child’s progress with the expected standard for their year level being the benchmark. There will be no parent teacher interviews this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, however, teachers have been asked to contact you should they wish to discuss your child’s progress with you.
We look forward to your support and cooperation as we move towards our normal school operation.

Monday 29 June 2020 is the feast of Saint Peter and Paul. Peter was the rock on which Jesus built his church; his faith was a great source of strength for the early Christians. Paul was a missionary, whose aim in life was to share the Good News that had transformed his life. Together they were the greatest leaders of the early church.
St Simon Peter will recognise this feast by celebrating SSP Day on Thursday 2 July 2020 (Week 10). Parents and other family members will not be able to join us this year.
All money raised goes to various charities, chosen by student representatives.
Our plan for the day is:
- Free dress day for a gold coin donation
- A digital Prayer service streamed to all classrooms at 9.00am. A link to this will also be sent home to all families. This will include reflections from students, staff and an ex-student from SSP
- Classes will run stalls after lunch with classes going out at staggered times. Stalls finish at 2.40pm and gates will open for pick up after stalls have been packed up
You will have noticed three MJR (Making Jesus Real) signs in the school. They are located at the front of the School Hall and attached to the fencing in Junior and Senior Kiss and Ride.
This sign informs our school community that we are an MJR school. The sign has symbols. The fish represents the profession of our Christian faith (our belief in Jesus as our redeemer and the fisher of men), St Simon Peter who was a fisherman and who followed Jesus as a disciple and our location off the coast of Ocean Reef.
The cross also represents our belief in Jesus, our saviour who died on the cross so that we could live forever. The school colour maroon is represented too.
