Last night we were fortunate to have Paul Litherland speak to approximately 30 parents regarding child internet safety, the current apps that our children and future teenagers access and what parents can do to support and assist their children in being safe online.
Paul had previously worked with our students at the end of 2020 and follows each of his student visits with a parent follow up session.
Paul’s website is https://www.surfonlinesafe.com.au and the site has several useful resources that you can view.
One of these is the beacon app created in partnership with Paul and the Telethon Institute. The website for this app can be found here: https://beacon.telethonkids.org.au.
This app provides relevant online information for parents to make informed decisions regarding online resources for their children.
As of the start of this morning, Wednesday 17 March 2021, we had just over 500 parents who had booked their parent/teacher meetings with their child’s teacher.
This equates to just under 80% of our parents who have arranged these meetings. That is a great result and we would like all parents to avail themselves of this opportunity, as this will be the last official time for staff to meet with parents until the release of the Semester One reports at the end of Term Two.
We would be interested in your feedback as to whether, or not, you found the online booking system easy to use. To that end we will be sending out a quick survey for you to complete in the next day or two. It would be greatly appreciated if you would take the time to complete the survey once you receive it.

In our last newsletter, I posted about the code of conduct and asking parents to review the documentation on our website regarding the code and the expectations that it places on adults. One of these expectations is that parents would not approach another child if they had issues or concerns regarding the interaction between their own child and another student.
As was explained previously, there is always an inherent imbalance between adults and children and the onus is on the adult to make good decisions regarding any concern that they may have. The school expectation that when this is the case that parents take up their concern directly with the school, not the student and allow us to provide an impartial follow up to any issues or concerns. Those who choose not to follow this direction will be expected to explain their actions and how they comply with the school code of conduct.
In all cases, we will work for the right outcome in all situations, which is not always the one that will please all parties. Please help us to help everyone in making sure that everyone is complying with the code to ensure a safe school environment for all students.

Free Dress Day - Friday 26 March 2021
We will be having a Free Dress Day on Friday 26 March 2021.
We ask that a gold coin donation is made with all funds raised going to Caritas - Project Compassion. This charity assists those who are less fortunate during Lent.
Students are asked not to wear costumes, however, they are welcome to wear Bunny ears that they have made. This could be an opportunity to use recycled materials and what is available at home, rather than going to purchase head gear.

Welcome to the new school year. My name is Megan Dyson and I am one of the Community Health Nurses who visits your school.
Community Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program.
Community Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counselling and referral. The services provided are free and confidential.
If you have a concern about your child’s health or development, please contact me 0439 293 478.
Colour blindness means that a person cannot distinguish some colours or see the colours differently to other people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours. Commonly, the colours seen differently are greens, yellows, oranges and reds.
An information leaflet on colour blindness will be distributed to all Pre-primary students in term One. Please take the time to read the pamphlet.
For more information and see the Colour Blind Awareness and Support Group on http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~doverton/
If you have any concerns, colour vision testing can be performed by some general practitioners, eye specialists or optometrists. You can also contact your local Community Health Nurse, Megan Dyson on 0439 293 478

Parents will then be invoiced for this.
