As we come to the end of Term 1, I would just like to say thank you to everyone who has made my first term at SSP a great one.
A special thanks to those who took the opportunity to meet with me last Thursday evening. It was a great opportunity to talk in depth with some of you and to find out a little bit more about you and your family. I am looking forward to a number of different activities organised for both the parent group and the children during the remainder of the school year.
Have a very safe and holy Easter break! Please check the Parish website (https://stsp.org.au/bulletins/) for Mass times over this Easter weekend.
Read LessWe have been able to install new posts and backboards on the basketball courts before the end of the term, which the children are absolutely delighted with.
We are also currently reviewing the playground plan regarding the equipment around the fence line on the Eastern side of the school that was discussed at last year’s ACM.
A small maintenance group, comprised of parents on our Parent Advisory Council and staff, are currently reviewing our needs and once we have clarity regarding what is possible we will share them with students to ensure that we are including them in the decision-making process. We will then display the multi-year plan to our school community for comment.

There was some great energy in the room and I would like to thank everyone who has put their hand up to offer their assistance in this important role.
Read Less556! That is how many parent teacher meetings were organised and conducted over the past two weeks. That is almost 88% of our school cohort that have met to discuss their child’s progress.
Many thanks to our staff who have used all opportunities at their disposal, including using technology, to conduct some of these meetings online.
Read LessWe are currently conducting interviews for new families for Kindergarten in 2022.
Any existing family is more than welcome to organise a meeting with Mr Cutrona to discuss the individual needs of their child if they have a child who is enrolled to attend SSP next year.
Please make sure that you have submitted your Expression of Interest Form and then contact our Enrolment Officer, Helen Florschutz, via email at Helen.florschutz@cewa.edu.au to set up an appointment time.

The Sustainability team is creating Recycling Centres around the school to reduce waste and reuse items, opposed to adding them to landfill.
The Recycling Centres around the school will be in between Kindy and ELC, between Pre Primary Blue and OSHC and one will be outside the nurse’s office.
We will have labelled containers for staff, parents and students to place clean bottle caps, cork stoppers, pull tabs, bread tags and batteries. The pull tabs and bread tags are collected and sent off to be made into wheelchairs.
The bottle caps need to be cleaned and sorted into the labelled containers and then they are sent off and used to create prosthetic arms. All the other bottle caps and cork stoppers can be reused for arts and crafts. These will be set up early next term. Start collecting over the holidays and be ready to repurpose these items rather than placing them in landfill.

For a reminder for those who may have forgotten, Nude for Food is lunch boxes without excess packaging. It reduced the amount of rubbish coming to school and therefore reduces rubbish in our courtyards.
We will begin our Nude for Food competition again next term for the class with the most amount of Nude for Food lunches. The winning class will receive the Golden Lunch Box trophy for that week. It is much better for the environment to reduce waste, such as rubbish rather than using water and soap to wash containers.

Please note, if the weather is inclement, we will have to cancel as we cannot have large adult numbers indoors due to the current COVID restrictions in place.

Last week we had 38 competitors attend our interschool swimming carnival at HBF Arena in Joondalup. Congratulations to all those students who competed.
Our team represented our school in fine style displaying very good behaviour and sportsmanship and excellent competitive spirit and skill.
SSP did very well again this year, gaining place ribbons in 82 of the 85 events! A brilliant effort from our swimmers! A special mention to the Year 4 boys who managed to win every race they competed in.
It was a magnificent effort by our children, both in the pool and through their behaviour in the stands. It was great to see our school putting on such a great performance. Thanks again to all those who assisted us both at this carnival and at our own faction swimming carnival a fortnight ago.
Thank you to all the parents who came along to help at the event. Our school hosted the carnival, so the parent help was very important and appreciated. All the results have been placed on the notice board near Student Services for the school community to read.

Read LessPrayer is a very important part of our faith journey and developing a closer relationship with God.
At SSP, we have been discussing the importance of prayer in our school and our student’s connection with the current school prayer. Do parents or school staff know the school prayer? Are students able to recite the school prayer?
Our goal is to co-construct, with students, a school prayer that is child centred and has a strong connection with our school community. More information about this will be revealed next term.
Read LessThis week is Holy Week and this morning our Year 5B students re-enacted the Stations of the Cross. This is the story of the suffering and death of Jesus on his final journey into Jerusalem. It is an important part of our Christian belief; Jesus showed his great love for us by what he did. It is by this love that Jesus united us to himself and brings us to eternal life. Our Year 5B parents were invited to join us on this important occasion in the church’s calendar.
We wish all families a Happy and Holy Easter and look forward to welcoming you all back to Term 2 on Tuesday 20 April 2021.
