On Friday 12 October almost 700 of our students competed in the annual Athletics Carnival. The Salvatorian Sharks won the Athletics Shield this year after a day of close competition and a term of preparation. Congratulations to all the students who behaved so well on the day and competed in a very sportsmanlike way! Thank you to all the family and friends who came along to cheer and to all those who helped with the carnival in some way.
Athletic Champion and Runners Up medals were awarded at the end of the day to students in Years 3 to 6. These were based on athletic events (Shot Put, Long Jump and 800m) conducted during PE classes and the results of the sprint races at the carnival. Congratulations to the students who received these medals, their names are listed below for all to see along with a final points tally.

NIPSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival
Seventy of our students from Years 3 to 6 competed in events on Friday 19 October at the annual NIPSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival held at Kingsway Sporting Grounds. The students had an outstanding day results wise and they also behaved very well which was wonderful for our school community.
We have put the competitor list with the results up on the school noticeboard for all to see and the team should be very proud of their efforts. They were able to gain places in 110 out of 152 events, which included athletic jumps and throws, races and relays! Thank you to the parents who were able to come and cheer on the day. Congratulations again on a great team effort!

I read with interest in Monday’s West Australian (on p.3) that according to a national survey of parents “Aussie kids are spending 20 hours a week glued to screens but just six hours playing outside after school and on weekends.”
As we come to the second year of being a “Learning at Home” or a no homework school, I thought it might be a good idea to revisit this initiative by publishing the research behind such a decision.
