Beginning of Term Reminders
As we begin the new term, it’s worthwhile to share a few important reminders.
Thank you to all families who use the drop-off and pick-up line and follow the school’s traffic directions. A gentle reminder that vehicles must not turn right into the line, as outlined in our traffic guidelines.
Please note that play equipment is not to be used before or after school. Additionally, the area outside the Year One and Two classrooms must be vacated at the end of each school day, as it becomes the licensed space for OSHC once the gates are closed. If you are collecting children from this area, we ask that they are closely supervised. We’ve had several collisions and near misses due to the high volume of families exiting through Gate 3, so your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Last Thursday, we celebrated the Performing Arts Opening Mass, with our school choir—led beautifully by Mrs Oliver—providing outstanding music ministry. A heartfelt thank you to our parent volunteers and to Ms Manifold for your support and assistance on the day.
During my term of leave, the school was very capably led by Ms Manifold and Mrs Crosthwaite. My sincere thanks to both for the fantastic job they did in my absence.
I was fortunate to spend part of my leave on pilgrimage, and during the final two weeks of Term Two, I followed in the footsteps of Mary MacKillop from Adelaide to Melbourne. I visited sites of significance and gained a deeper understanding of the impact Australia’s first saint has had on Catholic education across two states. In a previous role, I was principal of the first school in Western Australia to be run by the Josephite order, so this journey held deep personal and professional meaning.
Mary MacKillop’s legacy, which we celebrate next week on her feast day, continues to profoundly influence Catholic education in Australia. I’d like to share a reflection from one of her letters, which I had the privilege of exploring during my time away. You can listen to it here: https://qrco.de/bdECvb
Warm regards
Peter Cutrona

As we start another term, a friendly reminder to all families about the importance of keeping unwell children at home.
When children come to school sick, it not only makes it harder for them to learn and recover, but it also increases the risk of spreading illness to others — including classmates and staff.
To help support our community’s health and wellbeing, please take a moment to review our School Medical and Illness Protocols
We appreciate your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment for everyone.
Thank you
Nurse Izzy
We’re excited to celebrate Book Week in Week 4 – Monday 11 to Friday 15 August. This year’s theme is ‘Book An Adventure’, highlighting the incredible journeys we take through stories. Reading helps us escape to new worlds, expands our vocabulary, and fuels our imagination.
The Book Fair will run all week in the Hub from 11 to 15 August. On Monday and Tuesday, students will visit the Hub for a short preview session where they can browse the books and create a wish list. Please note: no sales will take place during these preview times.
Book sales and ordering times are as follows:
-
Tuesday 12 August: 3:00–4:00pm
-
Wednesday 13 August: 8:00–8:30am & 3:00–4:00pm
-
Thursday 14 August: 8:00–8:30am
Students will also be able to purchase books during Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes.
The Book Week Dress-Up Parade will be held at 8:50am on Wednesday 13 August. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character, think Disney, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland… the choices are endless! Costumes can be simple and inexpensive, let your child’s imagination lead the way.
To finish our celebration, students will attend a special incursion on Monday 18 August called “Treasure Hunt” performed by Perform. It promises to be a fun and engaging experience for all.
Volunteers Needed!
The Book Fair is a busy time, and we’d love some extra help in the Hub during our sale times:
-
Tuesday 12 August: 7:50–9:00am & 2:50–4:15pm
-
Wednesday 13 August: 7:55–8:45am & 2:50–4:15pm

In the Early Years, creativity isn’t just about art and craft—it’s a vital part of how children explore, understand, and express themselves. When we encourage imaginative play, storytelling, and open-ended activities, we’re helping children develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and emotional resilience. Whether they’re building castles from blocks, painting their dreams, or role-playing as explorers, every creative moment is a step toward confident, curious learners. At SSP, we celebrate these magical moments and strive to create environments where imagination can flourish every day.

Community Clothing Day – Saturday Special Event
The Spiers Centre currently have a large surplus of donated clothing to sort and share, and we’re excited to host a special Saturday Clothing Day to make access easier for families who aren’t able to visit during our usual Wednesday morning hours.
Our goal is to remove as many barriers as possible so that anyone in need feels welcome and supported.
Also, if any of your amazing volunteers are available to lend a hand on the day, we’d be incredibly grateful for the extra support!
Thank you for being part of this wonderful community effort.

We worry that it teaches them that money grows on trees, that persistence doesn’t matter and that giving up when things are hard is fine. We worry that allowing them to hold those beliefs teaches them that they’re a precious snowflake and the world ought to bend to them, not the other way around.
But is that what they actually learn when we let them quit? Let’s ask the experts!
