After 12 months of planning, we introduced a personalised key system for each early learning centre family to access the ELC using a unique key through a secure app. Families using the OSHC services will also receive credentials to download the app as we switch to the new system in the coming weeks. This new system will replace the manual code locks at Gates 1 and 2.

This change improves safety, as the current locks only have one combination, which can be shared too widely. Each family will have a unique code that works only on the days they use the service. This ensures we comply with licensing requirements and that only those dropping off or picking up children from the OSHC have access.

During 2025 the school will be reviewing our current communication strategy to determine if the ways communication operates within our school is appropriate for the needs of our school community. Reviewing our current communication strategy is important for several reasons:

  • Ensuring that our messages are clear and reaching the intended audience.
  • Improving how we engage with students, parents and staff to foster a stronger school community.
  • Gathering feedback to understand the needs and preferences of our community.
  • Adapting to new communication tools and platforms that may be more efficient.
  • Making sure our communication methods are accessible to everyone, including those with different needs or language preferences.
  • Maintaining a consistent message across all platforms to avoid confusion.

By reviewing and updating our strategy, we can better meet the needs of our school community both now and in the foreseeable future. This work will initially sit with the Catholic School Advisory Council and develop over 2025 so we can have a clear and concise plan to implement towards the end of the school year.

Next week, we begin Lent with Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday observed at school. On Wednesday, we will have Mass where children will receive ashes as a sign of repentance and preparation for the 40 days leading up to Easter.

In Australia, children under the age of 14 are not required to fast or abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday. The fasting and abstinence rules apply to Catholics aged 14 and older, so they do not impact our primary school students.

Thank you to the small but willing FSSP (Friends of St Simon Peter- Our version of the school P&F)  committee that organised the Welcome Picnic last Friday. All those in attendance certainly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the company of the families in attendance.

Currently, the FSSP are looking for other volunteers to join them on their committee to assist in organising events for the school during 2025. If you are willing to assist in this endeavour and to find out more about what this may entail then use the contact form link here and your details will be passed on to the current committee members.

Have a great Labour Day long weekend!
