Class Placement Information
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we are tasked with placing over 660 students into classes. This is a complex process that takes into account a wide range of factors to ensure the best possible learning environment for every child.
Key Considerations in Class Placement
We carefully consider each student’s:
- Academic performance
- Work habits (e.g. ability to work independently)
- Behaviour
- Gender
- Social network and maturity
- Special circumstances (e.g. twins, siblings)
- Previous class placements
- Classroom observations
- Other relevant information
Our goal is to create balanced classes that support the academic and social development of all students. Each class will include a diverse mix of abilities and personalities.
Please note: Even a single late-stage change can create a domino effect, impacting many other placements. For this reason, class lists are final once published.
Friendship Groups
We understand the importance of friendships. Students will be invited to complete a confidential friendship survey, where they can nominate up to five peers they would like to learn with. While we aim to place each child with at least one friend, friendship groups are not the primary factor in placement decisions. In some cases, it may be beneficial for students to be placed apart.
Parental Input
Parents and carers are welcome to share any significant information that may not already be known to the school or current teacher. Most families will not need to respond unless there are exceptional circumstances.
If you do wish to provide input, please use the following form:

Please understand: While all input is valued, we cannot guarantee that specific requests will be accommodated.
Parent and Carer Commitment
We ask all families to support our Class Placement Process by:
- Trusting and accepting the school’s decisions
- Speaking positively with your child about their placement
Please note that class placements are made with the best interests of the entire cohort in mind—not based on existing parent or child relationships.
Please note - request closes on Tuesday 9th September.
