Learning Journeys and Tabloid Sport Carnival

Learning Journeys and Tabloid Sport Carnival

These are two events coming up on the calendar that are going to look different in 2020, due to COVID-19 restrictions and additional safety and security measures. These restrictions are actually for the adults who are more prone to the virus than children.  Hand hygiene will be observed with sanitiser stations available in the room and around the school.  Photography and video streaming will be restricted on the day and we ask that this be kept to a reasonable level.

Learning Journeys

Our numbers in the room are restricted and social distancing of 2m2 being the requirement, will be in play whilst in the room.  The classroom teacher/s will be in the room and will be observing how the student is leading you on their journey and making sure everything is being covered.  Some journeys will take you to the Hub, Music Room, Catherine Centre or the Indonesian Room, it just depends on what has been included in the journey across the curriculum areas for your child.

Our learning journeys are scheduled for Tuesday 15 September 2020 from 3.30pm to 6.00pm in the classrooms.  You will be asked to make a booking for your child’s classroom by selecting a timeslot for each child.  Your child will be trained to guide you through their classroom and all the exciting things that have happened and on display.  You might like to ask your child some questions to get them to explain what they are learning and to show you the evidence of this.  Each journey should take about 10-15 minutes.

Tabloid Carnival

Again, this event will be different this year and our COVID-19 restrictions are designed to protect the adults more than the children on days like this.  There will be a restriction on numbers and we are asking that immediate family only are invited to attend the carnival at Santiago Parkway on Friday 16 October 2020.  There will be a number of security and biosecurity measures in place on the day to keep students safe.  A toilet roster will be in place and supervised for use of the facilities at the park.

The carnival will operate all day for Years 3-6 and up to lunchtime for Kindy to Year 2.  Parents of children enrolled at SSP will be seated on the hill (as normal) looking onto the flat races lanes or following the team games by accessing two restricted areas marked out on the oval, observing a 2m2 social distancing restriction.  Parents will not be able to sit with their children during lunchtime.  Twice during the morning we will be doing a roll call to ensure all students are in attendance, with the carnival finishing back in the classroom on the day for the final roll call.

There will be no dismissals from the oval at any time in the day, so please don’t ask to take your child from the oval because you will be disappointed.  This year a final roll call will be made in the classroom on the day at 2.30pm. Normal drive through and pick up arrangements will apply for all families on the day.

Hand hygiene will be observed with sanitiser stations available around the venue and at the back of each House Tent.  Hats and sunscreen will be a requirement on the day.  A coffee van only will be available for parents as well as our normal sausage sizzle arrangements for lunch orders and sales on the day.

Students from Pre Primary to Year 6 will be involved in a number of group based and individual sporting contests throughout the day, all with the purpose of helping their team to win the House Shield.  Students have been preparing for the carnival this term and Interschool Athletics selections will be based on performances in PE lessons and at the Tabloid Carnival.
