Health/Medical Information

During the enrolment process, parents/guardians must disclose all medical conditions for each child on the Enrolment Form, even if no serious medical conditions exist. This ensures the school can respond appropriately in the event of a medical emergency.

If there are any changes to your child’s medical condition, please inform the school office in writing. All medical information is treated as strictly confidential. It is crucial that this information is updated regularly to ensure the safety and well-being of your child.

The school will make every effort to contact parents or emergency contacts before seeking medical assistance in the event of illness or injury. Please ensure the school has up-to-date contact details.

Important: Parents must update their emergency contact numbers immediately if any changes occur. By completing the Enrolment Form, parents give permission for the school to seek medical assistance in an emergency if they cannot be reached.

If your child is unwell, please keep them at home. The school nurse does not supervise sick children for long periods. If a child becomes ill or is injured during the school day, the school will contact the parent or emergency contact.

The school does not hold general-use medications. Staff will only administer medication that has been provided by parents, with the required documentation completed. Ideally, medication should be given at home, outside of school hours. However, the principal may approve the administration of prescribed medications (e.g., antibiotics, antihistamines, painkillers) if the correct forms are submitted. These forms are available from the school nurse.

Medication Guidelines

If your child requires occasional medication during school hours (e.g., antibiotics), a medication form must be completed and submitted to the school nurse. The medication must not be self-administered— the nurse will administer it.

For ongoing medication (e.g., daily prescriptions lasting longer than two weeks), a form must be completed, accompanied by a letter from the prescribing doctor specifying the medication, dosage, schedule, and potential side effects. All medications will be securely stored in the nurse's office.

In the case of a documented medical care plan (e.g., for anaphylaxis or epilepsy), the required medication must be provided to the school prior to the child’s first day of attendance.

Medications
Any medication that needs to be administered during school hours must be accompanied by a completed School Medication Form, which can be downloaded below or collected from the nurse’s office. The medication must be in its original packaging. Please submit both the form and the medication to the school nurse.

Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. Given the risk to many of our students, we maintain a nut-free environment at school.

Students with anaphylaxis must have an Anaphylaxis Management Plan in place, and an EpiPen must be provided to the school. Please contact the school nurse for assistance in creating this plan.

Asthma

Asthma is a chronic condition that affects the airways, causing wheezing, breathlessness, and chest tightness. Students with asthma must have an Asthma Action Plan in place, and provide the school with a copy of the plan, along with a puffer and spacer. Please contact the school nurse for guidance on setting up an asthma action plan.
Asthma action plans must be reviewed annually by your GP. The school nurse will send reminder emails when updates are due.

Infectious and Communicable Diseases

Parents are asked to keep sick children at home and notify the school of any infectious diseases. Children who have been vomiting or had diarrhea should remain at home for at least 24 hours after symptoms subside. If you have concerns, please consult your family doctor. Your doctor will advise on any exclusion periods from school, and you must inform the school of any diagnosed infectious disease.

For more information, please consult your GP or contact Health Direct at 1800 022 222, a 24-hour medical advice service.

Immunisation

Under the 'No Jab, No Play' policy, children who are not fully vaccinated may be excluded from enrolling in childcare and kindergartens. The school requires all students to meet immunisation requirements for enrolment.
